Bushcare
Bushcare is a community based Volunteer program run by Council to improve its bushland. It involves the removal of exotic and noxious plants from native bush to enable the bush to return to its natural state. Occasionally it involves replanting seedlings of indigenous plants along creek lines, on slopes and ridges, direct seeding in the bush using the seedball technique or freshly picked seed.
Who can become involved?
Bushcare is an activity for people of all ages and abilities. Initially you don't need any experience. Council supplies all plants, tools, supervision and training both at your bushcare site and on weekend workshops held in the Volunteer's Room at Bidjiwong Community Nursery.

Why do we need Bushcare?
Our bushland is a valuable educational, recreational and environmental resource that must be conserved for the health of all water catchments in the Sydney bioregion. Bushland ecosystems give us a place to escape from the pressures of living in the city. The indigenous plants within our rare and unique natural bushland Reserves provide a home and food for the animals living there. The plants also give us clean air to breathe.
